Appeals, Complaints, Misconduct

Policies and Procedures for handling and initiating appeals, complaints, misconduct allegations and fitness to study reports

Appeals

If your studies have been discontinued by the University during your registration period (either following an interim assessment or on the basis of a lack of progress), or if you do not succeed in attaining the award for which you registered, you may choose to appeal.

This is known as A Request for a Review of the Decision and must be received by the Doctoral College within one month of the notification of the recommendation.

A separate process exists for applicants to the University, who wish to appeal against an admissions decision.

Complaints

The Student Complaints procedure is available to current students and those who have recently left the University (up to two months after your award has been conferred or you exit the University).

To initiate a complaint, select ‘Complaint Stage 1’ from the appropriate drop down menu within the SAAT Online Reporting Form.

Student Non-Academic Misconduct

You may be involved in the Student Misconduct process if:

  • You need to report the behaviour of another student which amounts to misconduct
  • You have had a misconduct report made against you

Allegations of student misconduct can be made by staff, students and members of the public.  If you need to initiate this process, please select please use this to make any reports of Student Misconduct, select ‘Student Misconduct’ from the appropriate drop down menu within the SAAT Online Reporting Form.

Fitness to Study

You need to understand and use the Fitness to Study policy if you:

  • Are concerned about another student’s wellbeing, and you need to report this
  • Have been told that a Fitness to Study report has been made about you

The Fitness to Study Policy can be triggered by a report submitted by staff members, Student Union officers or fellow students.
