Overview
Mark Beattie is a Lecturer in the English for Academic Studies Centre (EASC) at Ulster University, where he specialises in English for Academic Purposes (EAP). His teaching supports international students in developing the academic literacy skills required in higher education.
His research interests centre on the intersection of artificial intelligence, academic literacy, and EAP pedagogy. He is particularly interested in how emerging technologies are reshaping teaching practice, student learning, and the role of EAP practitioners in higher education. His earlier research explored the use of technology, including Automated Speech Recognition (ASR), to promote independent language learning and increase learner engagement beyond the classroom.
Drawing on his experience as an EAP practitioner, Mark integrates evidence-informed practice to help students develop the academic competencies needed in an increasingly diverse and technology-rich learning environment.
