Overview

Lysa joined the School of Medicine team at Ulster in February 2021 as Senior Clinical Lecturer. She is lead for Clinical and Communication skills, OSCE lead and Penultimate year (P-Year) lead. She graduated from the University of Dundee MBChB and has Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (by examination), Higher Education Academy Senior fellowship and completed a Doctorate in Education in 2017.

She worked in medical education at the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews since 2005, including ScotGEM- Scotland’s first graduate entry medical degree. She was awarded the prestigious St Andrews Teaching Excellence award for her work there.

Lysa is the chair of the scientific review committee for the International Clinical Skills Conference. Although Lysa’s clinical background was emergency medicine, she has also worked in falls interventions for the elderly, acute frailty care and currently works part time for the Western Health and Social care Trust.
Lysa’s areas of research interest include barriers to engagement in simulation based learning, and motivation for learning, and learning to promote whole-person care.

In her spare time she enjoys baking and exploring the Causeway and Donegal Coasts, with an occasional sea dip.
