Kevin Burns
Overview
Kevin has been the Weave Technician at Ulster University since ‘Noah’s Ark’ – delivering technical-based teaching and learning in both practical and CAD weaving on the Textile Art, Design and Fashion course, five days a week across all year groups. As the University’s subject matter expert in weaving, his core role is practical and technical based teaching, covering the full breadth and depth of weaving and associated activities in the Weave Workshop. He works with non-specialist first years through to final-year students – teaching complexity increasing as students’ knowledge and skill base develops. In addition to his core duties, Kevin can be involved with internal/external research projects, collaborations, consultancy etc.
Beyond the University, Kevin designed, developed and patented the Weavebird Loom in collaboration with Leclerc Looms inc., Plessisville, Qc Canada https://www.camillavalleyfarm.com/weave/weavebird.htm This loom is now sold worldwide also recognised as a world leader weaving technology, three of which proudly sit in Ulster University, two in BSoA and one in School of Engineering. When not busy with weaving nerd stuff, Kevin is an enthusiastic kayaker enjoying time outdoors miles from the shore and the odd pint of G! when he manages to escape family life …
