Local business leaders, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council representatives and Ulster University joined forces this week for Open Conversations – a Causeway Chamber event focused on partnership, collaboration and supporting regional economic growth.

Hosted at Ulster University’s Coleraine campus, the event brought together more than a dozen local businesses to discuss how stronger links between academia and industry can help unlock innovation, attract and retain talent, and drive future success across the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

Delegates heard from members of Ulster University Business School’s Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management, who shared how the University’s expertise and research capabilities can support business needs. The Business Engagement Unit also outlined opportunities for local companies to access funded courses and tailored professional development initiatives.

Dr Rachael Singleton from Ulster University Business School delivered an engaging session on Behavioural Insights for Business Outcomes, exploring how evidence-based approaches can enhance decision-making and organisational performance within the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Karen Yates, Chief Executive of Causeway Chamber, said:

“Open Conversations is about strengthening the connection between business and education. Working with Ulster University allows us to help our members access knowledge, innovation and skills that will support growth and create opportunities across our local economy.”

Professor Malachy O’Neill, Director of Regional Engagement at Ulster University, added:

“We were delighted to welcome Causeway Chamber members and business leaders to our Coleraine campus. Events like this demonstrate the power of partnership in action — sharing insight, fostering collaboration and ensuring that Ulster University continues to serve the evolving needs of the region.”

The event closed with a roundtable discussion where businesses shared priorities and challenges, reinforcing the shared ambition to build a thriving, connected and forward-looking regional economy.

The ‘Open Conversations’ event was hosted by Causeway Chamber in partnership with Ulster University at the Coleraine campus on Monday 3 November.
