Microplasma expert Professor Paul Maguire has been awarded a Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship by the University of Ulster.
Professor Maguire has been a core member of Ulster’s staff for over 25 years and has continuously shown leadership and a professional attitude at the highest level.
Considered a world-leading expert in microplasma design and is recognised internationally as a leader in his areas of research activities in that his research has major influence and impact in the fields concerned. He is a leading member of the Engineering Research Institute and is on track to perform at a 4 star level for the Research Excellence Framework in 2014.
Professor Maguire has been involved in a range of technology transfer activities including patenting and translational activities via Fusion and KTP programmes., and has attracted large, top quality research council funding. He has also been instrumental in setting up a number of successful collaborations within the EU Plasma Community and he is currently leading the University's work with Scripps in San Diego, USA.
As Chair of Nanofabrication, Professor Maguire is a central contributor to the disciplines of plasma technology and nanotechnology at Ulster and his national and international profile in these areas brings recognition to the University in these important sectors.
