10 November 2010

Chartered accountant Claire McAteer has been appointed Lecturer in Accounting with the Department of International Business at the University of Ulster's Magee Campus.

Having worked with two of the 'Big Four' accountancy firms in the world, Londonderry woman Claire hopes her ‘hands on’ practical experience of the cut and thrust of the business world will benefit her students at Magee.

A past pupil of Thornhill College, Derry, Claire ( graduated a BSc Hons Business Studies with Accounting and MSc in Advanced Accounting at the Ulster Business School at Magee and Jordanstown respectively.

She is an Associate of Chartered Accountants Ireland and an Associate of the Irish Taxation Institute.

Prior to taking up her lecturing post, Claire worked in professional accountancy practice for over 8 years. She completed her Chartered Accountants Ireland training contract with Ernst & Young, Dublin before moving to PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Dublin where she held the position of Tax Manager.

More recently,  Claire has worked as Accounts & Tax Manager in one of the largest accountancy practices in the North West, Carlin McLaughlin & Co.

Claire says she is delighted to be returning to the Ulster Business School: “This is where I received my solid grounding in business and accounting studies and this enabled me to go on to become a Chartered Accountant and Registered Tax Consultant.

"I now hope to use my practical experience gained while working in professional accountancy practice to give students up to date practical knowledge and understanding of the world of accounting and business.”
