The primary provision of library resources for your course will be the responsibility of your College Library.

The Ulster University Library is able to offer a second level range of services and support for Associate Students, details of which can be found on this page.

What Your College Library Will Provide

As your main source of library support, your College library will provide:

  • Core learning materials, including electronic resources.

  • Help and guidance to students on finding and using resources.

  • An environment for study.

What the Ulster University Library Will Provide

The University Library will provide second level support which comprises:

  • Book consultation and borrowing (12 books from Standard Loan, 4 books from two week loans and 4 two day loans).  Full borrowing entitlements can be found on the Library Borrowing page.

  • Access to Inter-campus loans ( NB there is no access to Document Delivery - Inter-library loans)

  • Consultation of printed journals (periodicals) within the Libraries.

  • A book renewal service - in person at the Library Information Points or by phone (see the Contact Us web page).

  • Subject Specialised web pages.

  • Basic assistance from subject librarians.

You will need to have your Ulster University Associate Card with you to borrow books.

The Library Catalogue

You can access our library catalogue from home or from your college if you have a computer connected to the Internet.  A short guide to using the catalogue is available in the Library catalogue Help section.

Each University Library has 'Catalogue Only' PCs available.

Access and Password Information

  • Associate Students have a B student number but are not eligible for a network password - therefore they cannot access the University Portal or PCs on campus

  • Associate Students are provided with a Ulster University ID card showing their image and borrower number. The card will be clearly marked 'Associate'. You will need to have this card with you to borrow books.

Services

  • Requests for reservation and renewal of books may be made in person or by telephone  (see the Contact Us web page). Online reservation and renewal of books are not available as Associate Students do not have a password

  • Access to the 'catalogue only' computers is available in the Libraries

  • Access to other freely available resources on our web pages is only available off-campus, i.e. subject guides and resources not requiring a password

Electronic Resources

There is no right of access to the University's electronic resources (i.e. databases, electronic journals and electronic books) for Associate Students.

Subject Support

  • First line support is given by the College library. Induction and subject-specific classes fall within the remit of the College Libraries.

  • A basic level of help relating to our specific subject resources in the Ulster University will be given on request.

  • Associate Students may access the Subject Guides which are linked to below and are also available from the Library Home Page.
