Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out the entry requirements of the host country?

You should be aware of all entry requirements both on arrival and upon return to the UK, as detailed in the FCDO Guidance . You should read and understand all entry requirements, before you complete your Travel Preparation Assessment Form.

What happens if FCDO Guidance changes before I am due to travel?

This will apply to red list countries.

Before you travel, you should confirm living details with us and your host institution. Check the travel advice from FCDO and the living in country guide for the host country. Be mindful that your placement may not continue as originally planned.

If you receive approval for your mobility before travel but FCDO Guidance for the host country changes before the date you are due to travel, you should not proceed with travelling abroad. The University has indicated that no travel should be permitted without prior approval and appropriate  FCDO Guidance. Please contact us  for support, should you find yourself in this position.

I have already made financial commitments and now due to a change in FCDO Guidance I am unable to travel. What should I do?

This applies if your host country status changes to a red list country.

The University advises to “continue preparations but to avoid making any financial commitments to cover flights, accommodation, insurances or payments to internship providers.”

Should you have made financial commitments, please speak to the provider first to seek clarification on cancellations and postponements. You should also seek guidance from your host institution for any further queries.

What level of insurance will I have?

Please read the University's UMAL insurance policy and ensure your full understanding prior to travel. You should contact your host organisation to enquire if they provide additional insurance for you, and investigate purchasing any additional cover that you may require, if needs be.
