Programme Description

This summer, immerse yourself in the diverse landscape of sustainability through a week-long summer school at Christ University in Bangalore, India. The program, Sustainability: Finding a Balance in Urban and Rural India, offers a unique opportunity to explore how different communities across India approach sustainable living.

Based in the bustling city of Bangalore—India’s tech capital—you’ll begin your journey by learning about national and local sustainability initiatives through interactive sessions and lectures at the university.

The program then takes you beyond the classroom with field visits to NGOs, community-based projects, and corporate environments where sustainability is being applied in real-world contexts.

One of the highlights of the trip is witnessing the contrast and connection between rural and urban lifestyles, gaining insight into how traditional practices and modern innovations can complement one another. You'll meet local changemakers, explore innovative projects, and better understand the cultural, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainability in India.

In addition to academic exploration, the program offers a rich cultural experience—you’ll sample authentic South Indian cuisine, explore local markets, and visit historical and spiritual sites. The city of Bangalore itself is a fascinating blend of past and present, home to ancient temples, colonial architecture, and cutting-edge tech campuses. This program is ideal for anyone interested in sustainability, international development, or cross-cultural learning. It’s a hands-on, immersive experience that will leave you with fresh perspectives and lasting memories.
