Our pre-arrival webinars series for international students is designed to prepare you for your upcoming journey to Ulster.  In these live sessions your key staff contacts as well as current international students will provide you with guidance and advice as a newly-admitted international student.

Our aim is to support students with:

  • Arranging their travel to, and adapting to living in Northern Ireland
  • Understanding their accommodation needs and options
  • Understanding and meeting orientation expectations and responsibilities
  • Transitioning successfully to student and academic life at Ulster University

Accommodation: Your Options

In this extended webinar, participants will begin by learning about on-campus housing application deadlines, how housing assignments work, about on-campus housing options at UI, and how you can select the housing appropriate for your needs. We will also go over the move-in process and tips applicable to international students.

Participants will the move on to learning about the advantages and disadvantages of living in privately-owned housing located off-campus during their time at Ulster.

Presenters will discuss the best practices for obtaining off-campus housing, things to consider before signing a rental agreement, and ways to avoid potential pitfalls in the process. Participants will be able to ask questions to current students living in each of these areas.

Dependants: How to Support Your Spouse and/or Children

In this live webinar, participants will get information about daycares, schools, housing for families, and other community-related topics.  Factors to consider when deciding if and when to bring your spouse and/or children and what they will be able to do will be discussed.  There will be opportunities for questions at the end of the webinar.

Preparation Time: UUni Ready

In this live webinar, participants will learn about UUni Ready, the Ulster Mobile App that international students will use to start preparing for their arrival to Ulster University.  This webinar session will also offer some helpful tips and recommendations for preparing for your travel to Northern Ireland and to your campus.  Participants will have an opportunity to ask live questions at the end of the webinar.

Achieving Success: On-Campus involvement and cultural adjustment

In this webinar, participants will learn about the benefits and the opportunities to get involved on campus, and how involvement can help with cultural adjustment. Current international students will share their experiences about life on campus and highlight how this supported their adjustment. Participants will have an opportunity to ask live questions at the end of the webinar.

Understanding Orientation: Expectations and Your Responsibilities

In this live webinar, participants will learn about how to successfully participate in international student orientation and university-wide new student welcome week programs that help students find campus resources, meet other students, and work out the logistics of being an international student.  Students will learn more about the mandatory and optional sessions they can expect to encounter during International Orientation and Ulster's all student Welcome Week.  There will be opportunities for questions at the end of the webinar.

Instructions on how to join a webinar

  1. Download Zoom from the download center web page
    Users in the mainland China need to use a client version available at Zoom.com
  2. Register for the webinar in advance following the registration links above.
  3. Mark your calendar for the webinar date and start time in your time zone including the joining link.
  4. Connect to the webinar 5-10 minutes prior to the webinar start time.
  5. Each webinar is 1 hour long which includes presentation and 10-15 minutes for live Questions and Answer (Q&A) time. Please plan accordingly.
  6. Ask questions during the webinar using Zoom Q&A function.
  7. Each live webinar will be recorded.  Links to the recordings will be posted next to the broadcast date.  This can take up to 1 week after the webinar date.
