If you're the sort of person who always has a book by your bedside, English is the subject for you!  And where better for inspirational reading and writing than at the heart of the stunning Causeway Coast?

The Coleraine English teaching team is made up of acclaimed critical and creative writers who are passionate about their subject; we would love to share our enthusiasm with you!   Taking your love of reading as the one essential ingredient, we can offer a rich educational experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Our aim is to widen horizons and cultivate your abilities as a thinker, writer and communicator. Having introduced you to the basics of critical writing and literary theory in year one, we will continue to act as guides as you follow your own interests through your course, writing on whatever engages you most, whether that be Shakespeare or Game of Thrones.

Studying English at UU will help you to develop the kind of self-confident communication skills and sophisticated emotional intelligence that all employers are looking for, so you can be happy in the knowledge that your learning experience will be of practical use, as well as a lot of fun!

The Writing Pad

The Centre for Higher Education Research & Practice has recently called for the creation of “engaging spaces” and “active learning” experiences for students.

The newly-established Writing Pad on the Coleraine campus (upstairs in U-Block) answers this call, offering a casual, inviting space for students to develop their academic writing skills through a friendly conversation with a peer.  It's a place where students who who have trained as peer tutors can help their fellow students with any written assignment and any aspect of the writing process, from brainstorming ideas to structuring an effective argument to catching frequently committed errors.  If you are stressed about an essay or report, or want to bounce some ideas off a fellow student, come up and see us!
