Whether you are here as a conference delegate, attending a residential course, or as an individual visitor, we hope that your stay with us will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Please take a few moments to read the fire safety information overleaf which we would ask you to observe during your stay.
Above all, we hope that you will make yourself at home. If you have any special requirements regarding your accommodation or any other University facilities, please feel free to ask any member of the residential team.
Over the past few years, we have played host to many residential events such as summer schools, world sporting events and professional conferences. Smaller groups, and individual visitors have also made use of our extensive facilities.
The accommodation at Dalriada Student Village consists of quality ensuite, wi-fi enabled bedrooms with communal areas for cooking, socialising or just relaxing.
We hope you have a great stay, and we are sure that once you have enjoyed what we currently have available, you will wish to visit us again. If you are planning another event in the near future and require more specific information about availability and prices, please contact a member of the residential team during your stay.

Fire And Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Your Safety Whilst Living On Campus Is Our Priority.
If you discover a fire or other similar emergency, you should raise the alarm by activating the nearest red fire alarm point and then follow the instructions outlined on the “Emergency Procedures” notice in your room (and at other locations throughout University premises).
Please be aware that the alarms are tested for a short time each Wednesday and Friday. It is NOT necessary to evacuate during these scheduled tests.
What to do
If you hear an alarm (a continuous sound and flashing red light) you should:
- Leave the building at a rapid walking pace by the nearest available exit
- Do not stop to collect personal belongings
- Do not use lifts
- Make your way to the designated Fire Assembly Point
- Do NOT re-enter the building until you are told by a member of University staff or Emergency Services personnel that it is safe to do so.

Checking In and Out
Rooms are available for check in from 2pm, or earlier by prior arrangement. Please notify us of your intended arrival time.
Rooms MUST be vacated by 11am on the day of departure. A later check-out time can be arranged only by prior agreement with Residential Services.
Residential Services in Dalriada Student Village, or drop them into the yellow Key Return Box, located outside the building should the office be closed.
Please note that keys are returned at your own risk, if you do not return your keys on departure, you (or your event organiser) will be invoiced for replacements (currently £30).

General Information
You may consume alcohol on University premises during your stay with us, but we would ask that this is done in moderation and that you assume full responsibility for your own conduct at all times. Centre – Newtownabbey, Whiteabbey village and Carrickfergus.
There is no ATM on site.
Banks can be found at the Abbey Centre – Newtownabbey, Whiteabbey village and Carrickfergus.
All our residences are self-catering. If you don’t feel like cooking, there are many bars and restaurants near by in Whiteabbey Village, Carrickfergus or Belfast.
There is space for over 2,500 vehicles on campus, including over 50 disabled parking bays. We appreciate your good sense and co-operation by parking only in designated spaces.
If you have not been given specific instructions from your event organiser, you must pay to park on campus. Driving into campus, you will have taken a ticket at one of the yellow barriers. Before you can exit campus, you must pay for and validate this ticket at one of the yellow paypoint machines (see Campus Map). Paypoint machines accept coins, notes and credit cards.
Parking is FREE Monday-Thursday from 7pm – 7am and on Friday from 5pm – 7am on the following Monday.
Unfortunately, no guarantee can be given that a parking space will be available when or where you require it and no responsibility is accepted by the University for the safety of any vehicle parked on campus.
The frequency of cleaning and provision of linen is dependent on your room rate. Guests staying over 4 weeks will have communal areas cleaned once a week. Bed packs are available to purchase for £35.
For guests on a nightly rate, our dedicated housekeeping team service kitchens (remove rubbish and refresh surfaces) before and after your stay.
Towels
Guests can request fresh towels on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and housekeeping will provide additional bin bags and toilet rolls should you require these over the weekend.
Room servicing
For guests staying 7 or more nights housekeeping offer a room refresh (bed linen change & room cleaned) mid stay (on a Monday or Thursday).
If you wish to participate in religious services at a local place of worship, please ask at Reception for details.
For your enhanced safety on campus, all areas are covered by closed circuit television (CCTV), and cameras are strategically and discretely positioned throughout the site.
Bedrooms have a maximum capacity of 6 amps. Please do not overload the sockets in your room with multiple appliances. Should any of your appliances be faulty, the automatic residual circuit breaker (RCB) may trip the power supply off in your room for safety reasons, if this happens, please contact Residential Services staff.
The central heating and hot water in our residential buildings is normally available from 7.00am – 9.00am, 12.00pm – 2:00pm and 6:00pm-9:00pm.
A selection of local tourist information, maps, train timetables, etc. may be picked up from the Residential Services office.
All visitors are reminded that the University does not insure against any loss or damage of personal effects. The University is not responsible for any loss or damage to any personal effects, whether kept in your room or stored in any other part of the building.
Washing machines and dryers are located in the Laundry (behind the Facilities Management Office) in Dalriada Student Village. The self-service machines vend at £2.90 per wash and £1.90 per dry.
The machines operate via an app. Instruction on how to download the app and use the machines are available in the laundry room. You will also have to bring your own washing powder.
The Village Laundry is open 24 hours.
Please note that we do not have facilities to store your luggage once you have checked out of your room.
Lost property should be reported to your event co-ordinator or the Residential Services office in the first instance.
Residences are communal areas. In the interests of your fellow delegates/guests it would be appreciated if you try to keep noise to a minimum, Quiet Hours commence at 11pm.
In the unlikely event of a fault developing in your accommodation, please report it to the Residential Services Office for a speedy response. Outside of office hours, faults of an emergency nature should be reported to the on-call duty staff (07595 087 580).
Dry or non-food items of rubbish can be disposed of in your bedroom waste paper bin; food and wet items should be placed in the kitchen bin. Do not let rubbish accumulate. Kitchen and bedroom bins should be emptied in the large steel containers located in the external bin compounds.
Your safety whilst staying on campus is our priority. Please take sensible precautions regarding your own personal safety whilst on campus.
- Make sure that you close windows, draw curtains and lock your bedroom door if you are leaving your room.
- Secure external doors on exit.
- Do not leave valuables in plain sight; report any suspicious persons or activity immediately.
It is against the law to smoke within University residences and anywhere within the main University buildings. When smoking outside residential buildings, please dispose of used smoking materials carefully, using the ash bins outside at the external foyer/lobby doors.
There are several retail outlets a short distance from campus, in Whiteabbey and Monkstown. At both locations you can find a supermarket, newsagent, greengrocer and an off-licence.
There is a supermarket open Monday-Saturday 6am-11pm and Sunday 1pm-6pm in Carrickfergus and in the Abbey Centre in Newtownabbey.
Details of the University’s extensive sports facilities, both indoors and outdoors, are listed in the Sport and Recreation booklet, available from Residential Services.
The Sports Centre is open to summer users on a daily membership basis. Please ask a member of staff for further details. Swimming pools are located in the Carrickfergus Leisure Centre and Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey.

TVs are not supplied, a TV is available in the Hive Common Room.
There are several taxi freephones around the residences or you can call one of the companies listed in the Useful Numbers section. The usual taxi fare to Belfast city centre is around £15.00 - £20.00.
Bus and train timetables are available from Residential Services. There is a bus terminus and taxi rank within the campus grounds – see Campus Map for locations.
Buses do not normally operate outside term time however you may use the bus stops on the main Shore Road for connections to Belfast and Carrickfergus, Jordanstown Halt (railway station) is just a few minutes’ walk from campus, trains to Belfast and Carrickfergus run at regular intervals. Turn right at the Jordanstown Road entrance to campus and walk for about 10 minutes.
The University cannot be held responsible for cash or other valuables left in your apartment or bedroom.
Free WI-FI Set Up with Glide
1. Select “Glide” in your wireless device settings.
2. Open your browser window(even if you have no internet access at this point) and you should be re-directed to a Glide welcome screen. To access the free Wi-Fi click register and you will automatically be redirected to a log in page.
3. Click Get Started to register and you will automatically be re-directed to a login page and click Create Account.
4. To create an account complete all fields and choose a memorable username and password.
5. By clicking register, you are acknowledging and agree to the terms and conditions, usage policy and privacy policy. Click Register to complete.
6. If registration has been successful, a confirmation screen is displayed and you will be logged in automatically.

Emergency/ Illness
The University Health Centre (Parkside Clinic) is situated at the Grove Wellbeing Centre, 120 York Road, Belfast, BT15 3 HF Tel: 028 9521 3685. The opening hours are Monday 8:30am-6pm, Tuesday 8am-6pm and 6pm-8:30pm for pre-booked appointments only, Wednesday to Friday 8am-6pm. Most University Security staff have First Aid Training, and will help in the early stages of any emergency situation. The nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) is Antrim Area Hospital, Tel: 028 9442 4000.
If you have a medical condition which may require special attention (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes) please make this known to Residential Services personnel at the start of your stay with us, such information will be treated confidentially.

Location
Whiteabbey Village is just a 15 minute walk away (in the Belfast direction). It has a range of shops and other outlets, including a couple of bars and restaurants. Carrickfergus (in the opposite direction from Belfast) is an historic town, with a Norman castle. The town centre has a full range of retail outlets and interesting things to do and see. Please ask a member of staff for further details.
Lough Shore Park is directly opposite the main entrance of the campus, and it is a pleasant place for a stroll on a sunny day.
It has a children’s play area, and band recitals during the summer. There is also a cycle path from the campus right into the heart of Belfast.
