Translink has unveiled a striking new artwork at York Street Station, created by Belfast School of Art graduate, Maitiú Catherwood.

The painting, titled “Hey, you. You’re finally awake”, was acquired by Translink during the 2024 Graduate Show and now features prominently at the station, just steps from the University’s Belfast campus. It marks the launch of the new hourly Enterprise service from Belfast Grand Central Station to Dublin.

Dr Brian Dixon, Head of Belfast School of Art, commented:

“Our collaboration with Translink continues to offer meaningful opportunities for our students and graduates. This installation is a testament to the power of partnership, where art meets infrastructure, and creativity becomes part of the public realm. York Street Station is our students’ station, and it’s fitting that this work now lives there.”

BSoA Graduate and Artist, Maitiú Catherwood, shared his thoughts on the installation:

“As someone who relies on public transport daily, it’s an honour to have my work recognised by Translink. The Enterprise service is a familiar space for many, and I wanted to capture that in-between moment of travel, where we’re not quite here or there, but somewhere in motion.”

Michelle Alcorn, Head of Property at Translink, said:

“This artwork is a beautiful reflection of the journeys we make every day. York Street Station is a gateway for students, and Belfast Grand Central Station is now the doorway to Dublin with hourly Enterprise services. Maitiú’s painting captures the spirit of connection and possibility. We support emerging artists and bring creativity into our public spaces.”

The artwork, which draws on digital landscapes and video game aesthetics, is set aboard the Enterprise train and captures the unique, in-between state of travel. It reflects the connections made through daily commutes – between cities, ideas, and communities.

The initiative is part of Translink’s Better.Connected strategy, which focuses on connecting people, places, and possibilities. Through partnerships like this one with Ulster University, Translink continues to support emerging talent while integrating creativity into everyday travel spaces.
