Capture and create existing spaces to help realise interdisciplinary opportunities within the Belfast campus

Outline of Activity

This activity will help you explore the exciting collaborative opportunities which exist between built environment related disciplines and the creative industries because it is important that there is a mutual understanding of some of the most common technologies and workflows aligned with each.

The ambition of this activity is to provide an overview of the processes and technologies involved when capturing an existing space or environment for the purpose of developing a virtual replica in an architectural sense.

To gain credit for this activity you will be required to demonstrate knowledge of data capture techniques and authoring software, developing basic output/s.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate knowledge of the data capture and architectural authoring processes

2. Produce output/s using industry-standard software

Assessment Details

Students will be required to:

  • View a presentation from an industry professional on synergies between design disciplines and the creative industries
  • View a short case study, Building Block BA Level 05, which will provide a succinct overview of the process of developing a virtual replica of Block BA Level 05 using a combination of data capture equipment and software, architectural authoring software and visualisation software.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the software and processes identified in the case study via the following tasks:
    • View content relating to data capture and authoring and complete a quiz
