This activity, with the help of 1-1 support, will help students to visually identify and articulate their own career goals and ambitions.

Outline of Activity

Many students are unclear of their career options using the degree they are currently studying.

As the world of work is changing on a global scale, there are many new and existing job roles which students need to be aware of to ensure they make informed decisions throughout their employability journey. Design your career journey will help you proactively explore your career path.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, students will be able to:

  • Acknowledge the importance of career ownership and career planning through the development of a visual map
  • Identify and articulate their own career goals and ambitions through researching relevant industries and sectors
  • Create a structured, creative and focused career action plan
  • Develop self-motivation, confidence and self esteem

Assessment Details

  1. Attend an initial 30 min webinar session on how to develop an effective Career Mind Map.
  2. Attend an individual 1-1 coaching session with the Employability & Graduate Futures team. During this initial 1-1 coaching session the Graduate Development Coach will explain the requirements of these activities in more detail.
  3. Students will be required to create a Mind Map through researching their chosen career area/s using the Prospects website - What can I do with my degree?
  4. Attend a follow up 1-1 coaching session with the Employability & Graduate Futures team to discuss your mind map and to develop an action plan
  5. Submit your completed Career Mind Map, a Career Development Action and updated CV

The completion of the above will be verified by your Graduate Development Coach. Your completed work must meet an effort and quality threshold for you to secure EDGE Award accreditation.

Level of Commitment

20 hours total to include:

  • Attending a webinar
  • Participation in two 1:1 expert coaching sessions
  • Mind Map independent research/preparation
  • Career Mind Map, a Career Development Action and updated CV
