Application submitted and waiting on an offer?
Applications submitted through UCAS will be sent to your school or college so that a reference can be added. Once this has been completed, your application will be forwarded to the Admissions Team. Within a few days of receiving your application, we'll email you with details of the next steps and any actions you need to take to support your application. In most cases we will be seeking additional information from you before an offer can be made.
Completed Qualifications
Before we can make an offer, we need to verify the qualifications you have achieved and listed on your UCAS application. For most applicants, this will involve providing evidence of GCSE qualifications. Candidates studying Irish Leaving Certificate do not need to send copies of subjects passed at Junior Certificate level.
Right to Study
Ulster is required to authenticate the identification and nationality of all students prior to enrolment. This is to ensure that you have the right to study in the UK and to enable the release of any student finance you may have applied for. You will therefore need to provide us with a copy of your passport.
If you do not have a passport, please provide a long birth certificate and a copy of your parent's passport or birth certificate so that citizenship can be verified. These links might be useful in helping you decide if you meet the eligibility criteria to be have British of Irish citizenship.
If you do not hold UK or Irish citizenship, as well as providing a passport you will also need to provide evidence of your current immigration status. You can request a Share Code so that we can access your eVisa.
Please note that a driving licence does not verify nationality and is therefore not acceptable.

Receiving your offer
Offers will be made on an ongoing basis as soon as verification of qualifications and nationality has been received (subject to any additional selection that you have been asked to undertake). Our aim is to make all offers before 31 May for all applications sent to us before 13 January. This is dependent on you providing us with the required evidence. Your offer will either be:
Unconditional
All the academic requirements for the programme have been met,
Conditional
There are still academic requirements to meet. Your offer will detail the exact terms of the offer.
We will provide you with a written offer via email and will include copies of our terms and conditions in a PDF that you can download and keep.
Got your offer - make us Firm
Once you have received offers from all choices, you will need to make a Firm and Insurance choice. Come along to our applicant days in February and March to help you make an informed choice. If you have received all your offers before 31 March, you will need to make your Firm and Insurance choices before 5 May or all offers will be declined by UCAS and you will therefore need to submit a new application if you want to be considered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Before we can make you an offer, we need to verify that you meet the academic entry requirements for your chosen course. GCSE qualifications, particularly English Language, Mathematics and in some cases Science, are often a specific requirement for admission.
Providing copies of your GCSE certificates allows us to confirm that the qualifications declared on your application match the qualifications you hold.
The information submitted on your application is self-declared. As part of our admissions process, we may need to verify qualifications before making a decision. This helps ensure that all applicants are assessed fairly and consistently.
If you no longer have your certificates, you should contact the awarding organisation (for example, AQA, CCEA, OCR, Pearson Edexcel or WJEC) to obtain a replacement certificate or a certified statement of results.
You may be able to provide an official statement of results, a certifying statement from the awarding body, a school-certified transcript, or other official evidence of your qualifications. We will review the documentation provided and advise if further evidence is required.
The University is required by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to conduct a right to study check on every student enrolling on a programme. UK and Irish nationals automatically have the right to study in the UK. Students who are not UK or Irish citizens will need to provide details of their immigration permission and in most cases can provide a Share Code that enabales the University to check this permission.
In most cases, yes as this is the easiest way to verify your nationality and your identity. If you do not have a passport, you will need to provide some other proof that you are a UK Citizen. You can check if you are a UK Citizen using the UK Government's online checker. You will need to provide details of which category you belong to along with supporting evidence.
Applicants from the Republic of Ireland are asked to provide proof of identity and nationality in the same way as other applicants. An Irish passport is typically the easiest way to provide this evidence. If you do not hold a passport, alternative documentation may be considered. Please check the Irish Government website for more information on how you can check your citizenship and what evidence you might need.
If you are an Irish citizen then you do not require a visa to live, study or work in the UK (including Northern Ireland) under the Common Travel Area arrangements. If you hold nationality from another country, then you will need a visa to study in the UK (including Northern Ireland) and you will be liable for the higher fee rate charged to international students.
If we are unable to verify your qualifications or identity, we may not be able to make a decision on your application. This could result in delays or, in some cases, your application being withdrawn from consideration. If you don't have everything you think you need, please upload what you have and we can let you know if there is anything else required.
In accordance with the University's Data Protection Policy, we'll use the documents you submit to support the assessment of your application and to confirm your qualifications or other relevant information. Your documents will be kept secure and only viewed by authorised members of staff involved in processing your application.
