Finding Academic Sources of Information
Audience: All faculties.
Description: Get the most out of using academic sources. This 30 minute practical workshop will give you the opportunity to build on your information retrieval skills and engage with library resources more effectively.
Learning Outcomes: Develop effective searching skills; navigate library resources, build your knowledge in searching for academic sources.

Covidence
Audience: All faculties.
Description: Covidence is an online platform designed to simplify and accelerate the process of conducting systematic, scoping, rapid, literature, and umbrella reviews. Researchers across the University will benefit from its streamlined approach to managing review workflows. This introductory session is aimed at researchers new to Covidence who are keen to find out more about it.
This session will introduce you to Covidence and make you aware of its main features. You will gain an overview on:
- How to set up a review
- Importing references into Covidence
- Screening references
- Data Extraction and Quality Assessment
- Exporting from Covidence

Open Research
Audience: All faculties and research support staff.
Description: This 1h session will provide information on the funding available to Ulster University researchers to publish their works in open access. The session is recommended to all academic staff, researchers, and research support staff. UKRI-funded authors will have an opportunity to learn about support available to them to ensure compliance with funder open access requirements.

Description: As Generative AI (GenAI) tools advance, they need to be used with responsibility, integrity, and strong ethical principles. This session will explore the different GenAI tools and their uses. It will also cover the associated risks and limitations, as well as appropriate methods for citing content produced by GenAI.

Description: Many library databases (such as USearch, Web of Science, and JSTOR) have introduced generative AI functionalities, including natural language searching, keyword recommendations, and article summarisation tools.
Powered by commercial LLMs they are designed to generate responses that exclusively cite sources contained within each respective database.
This session will demonstrate these AI features and provide analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the functions and outputs.
