Choosing your area of Law

Deciding which area of law to specialise in is an exciting step in your legal journey. At Ulster, you can choose from eight distinct areas of law, each offering unique perspectives and career opportunities.

How to decide?

  • Reflect on your interests: do you enjoy problem-solving, advocacy, or working with businesses? Your passion should guide your choice
  • Think about your career goals: think about where you see yourself - courtrooms, corporate offices, public service, or international organisations
  • Research each area: spend time researching each area of law, learning what each specialism involves, and take a look at the programmes we offer for each
  • Talk to experts: speak with lecturers at an Open Day, or ask professionals in industry for advice and to gain real-world insight.

Your choice shapes your future, so take time to explore, ask questions, and choose the path that excites you most.
