The Meddeas Programme offers Ulster students and graduates the opportunity to work as Language Assistants in Spanish private schools.  This is a robust and structured teaching programme which enables participants to teach English in Spain and gain international work experience.  Participants receive a monthly salary, TEFL related training and ongoing in-country support.

Selected candidates will

  • Join a Spanish school to cooperate as Language Assistants with 20 teaching hours per week, starting in September/October - until May/June, with the same holidays as the school.  The 5-month placement programme runs from January to June.
  • Complete an Expert in Bilingual Education course, given online in English by a Spanish university.
  • Have health insurance covered by the programme (EU citizens).
  • Receive a monthly remuneration, more than enough for living in Spain.
  • Have the option between shared accommodation with other interns or live with a Spanish host family.
  • Have support from the school´s designated Tutor and from Meddeas, helping the language assistant in his/her task.

To be eligible, you must

  • Be a native-level English speaker.
  • Enjoy working with children and/or young people
  • Be energetic and imaginative.
  • Have no prior criminal convictions
  • Either a current university student or a graduate with a minimum bachelor’s degree
