Dr Rory Quinn

Overview

Education

Rory studied geology at Cork (BSc 1993), geophysics at Durham (MSc 1994), and marine geophysics at Southampton (PhD 1997) before joining Ulster in 1998.

Teaching interests

Rory teaches aspects of geology, GIS, and remote sensing on the environmental science, marine science and geography degree programmes.

Research interests

Rory is a geoscientist, interested in applications of ocean mapping methods and computational modelling. He uses acoustic imaging to detect, quantify, and understand change across marine and coastal environments, including anthropogenic, geomorphological, geoarchaeological, and biophysical systems. A better understanding of these processes helps inform policy decisions and supports the development of mitigation strategies aimed at reducing environmental loss in the face of increasing natural and human forcing.
