Shourt Course: Sustainable Transformation in Practice
About
Understanding how to lead, manage and communicate sustainable transformation is often an important role in senior leadership. This module provides an opportunity for students to apply the principles and practices of sustainable transformation management and leadership through a live consulting project.
This module aims to help students to develop knowledge of transformation and leadership through a Project Based Learning approach on a 'live' consulting project. This module will help students to develop and apply strategy, transformation management and how to effectively lead transformation.
In addition to taught lecturers by academics from Ulster University you will also hear from experts and leading industry practitioners of sustainable practice.
This module will apply the principles and practices of sustainable transformation and leadership to a live transformation project.
The content includes;
- The need for Sustainable Development in Business
- Designing Sustainable Solutions
- The Sustain-Engage Conference
- Understanding the Impact of Carbon Footprints
- Leading Change Programmes
- Leadership and Strategy Workshop
Teaching & Assessment
The module comprises face to face workshops and one-to-one supervision to support students in the completion of their sustainability project. This project is practical based and will help participants to make an impact within their organisation.
Lecturers and guest speakers will be used to deliver the syllabus content to the students. A range of techniques will be employed to engage students such as presentations, role play, games, videos, case studies.
Practical sessions will enable students to evaluate and design their own sustainability tool/policy/strategy. The skills developed in the practical sessions will be used in the completion of coursework.
Students will be directed to read sections of recommended texts, journals and conference publications and relevant internet articles.
Students will be expected to consolidate the material provided during lectures by private study.
Study groups will be utilised to provide students with the opportunity for peer-to-peer learning support. These study groups may be tutor-led or in a peer-to-peer setting.

This course requires on-campus attendance, at our Belfast campus, during Semester 1 in 2025, starting Wednesday 8 October.
The short course is timetabled for the following days:

- Wednesday 5 November 2025, 9am to 5pm
- Wednesday 19 November 2025, 9am to 5pm

This is a 20 credit module short course.
Entry requirements
You should hold a Second-Class Honours Degree or better OR have significant managerial / business experience.
Eligibility
Places are limited and open to applicants who:
- are 18 or over at the point of enrolment;
- have a right to work and undertake training in the UK at the point of application and for the duration of the course and must not be disqualified from doing either by reason of their immigration status. - meet the course specific entry requirements. See course pages for requirements.
- meet the Ulster University general entry requirements including competency in English (as evidenced by GCSE Grade C in English or alternative). For English competency, a degree taught in UK or Ireland covers this requirement. If your degree is from outside the UK or Ireland, please see our list of acceptable qualifications or tests.
