Personalised Medicine Centre will deliver an enhanced clinical research and healthcare ecosystem to sustain regional economic growth and support improved health for NI and beyond.

City Deal

Purpose
A unique combination of R&D infrastructure and expertise. Project members and partners have a unique combination of infrastructure and expertise for R&D in personalised medicine.
Reducing time, costs and risks in personalised medicine Personalised Medicine Centre will support an integrated ecosystem to accelerate R&D for personalised medicine, supporting scientific, clinical and commercial development throughout the R&D lifecycle.
By centring product development at Personalised Medicine, companies can work at the bridge between the UK and EU by gaining the ability to communicate easily with UK and EU-based regulatory agencies and notified bodies and gain barrier-free access to UK and EU markets.

Objectives
- RESEARCH QUALITY: Establish a centre of excellence at the forefront of research in personalised medicine, recognised regionally, nationally and internationally.
- IMPROVING HEALTH OUTCOMES: Lead collaborative R&D and innovation by supporting academics, clinicians, industry, the healthcare sector and government to advance treatments and technologies that address the needs of individual patients and enhance population health.
- ECONOMIC GROWTH: Support sustainable growth of the Life Sciences and Healthcare sectors across the region, via development of a ‘cluster-based’ ecosystem that creates a favourable FDI environment.
- SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: Work with key stakeholders to create and deliver training and skills to meet the future needs of the Life Sciences and Healthcare sectors.
- SUSTAINABILITY/NET ZERO: Develop research and innovation infrastructure that contribute to UU/WHSCT Net Zero Carbon agenda through their design, construction and operation

Addressing Industry Needs
- Builds upon a track record in biomarker discovery, personalised medicine research and data analytics.
- Supports economic growth of SMEs, corporates and FDI as well as spin outs and IP creation with additional GVA arising from the project.
- Creates a platform for enhanced partnerships between community, academic, industry, healthcare and government, with a clearer focus on delivering on the potential of personalized medicine.
- Improve research translation from lab to clinic and enable early stage and more industry engagement.
- Workforce skill development –UG & PG courses in Personalized Medicine; HLAs in Data Analytics; Short courses/ CPD in pharmacogenomics.

Addressing Community Needs
- Addresses challenges within the healthcare sector and their impact on community health; improves health equality.
- Greater community access to and widens participation in personalized medicine driven healthcare.
- Drives improvement in community health outcomes and; by validation of clinical utility/ health economics and implementation of drug-gene testing in collaboration with industry and healthcare.
- Provides significant opportunity for up-skilling and employment through strategic partnerships and ensures long term economic benefits to the region.
