The Advance HE (previously HEA) has operated the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme for a number of years and recently introduced a new Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence.

Ulster University has had success in applications for Advance HE’s prestigious NTFS and CATE awards in recent years.

To continue this successful record and to support colleagues who are demonstrating educational excellence we would like to encourage you to think about whether this is something for you (or for someone else you know).

Our aim is to develop a pool of potential applicants working towards future submissions.

National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTF)

If you feel you meet you can answer these statements, you might want to consider your readiness for NTFS:

• Have you had a transformative impact on students’ learning experiences?
• Have you used your experiences to promote these excellent approaches more widely and impactfully (in Ulster and externally)?
• Have you developed your own approaches, skills and knowledge through ongoing professional learning?

Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE)

If you feel you meet you can answer these statements, you might want to consider your team’s readiness for CATE:

• Has your team worked in a collaborative way to enhance the student experience?
• Can you show sustained impact that has had wider influence (at Ulster and more widely)

Ulster University is able to put forward a maximum of three National Teaching Fellowship nominations and one Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence nomination each year. The process is therefore competitive at an institutional level with the decisions as to who will go forward as the University nominees made by the Ulster NTF/CATE Committee.
