Research and Innovation

Read An Introduction to Research and Innovation
from Hugh McKenna, Pro Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation

Ulster is a dynamic and innovative research institution and we are proud of our excellent track record in the education and training of researchers.

Our doctoral graduates can demonstrate outstanding achievements in advancing knowledge and making breakthroughs of relevance to the economic, social and cultural development of society.

We combine academic excellence and expertise with a focus on applied research - innovation, and knowledge transfer. Our established research culture underpins our teaching and learning and through our Office of Innovation we have become a successful, business-facing university.

We submitted 25 different units (subject areas) for the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and the quality profile of 86% of our research was judged to be of international quality. Ulster is the only University in the UK where 100% of the research within Nursing and Celtic Studies is of international quality. We continue to build on our success in collaboration with students, businesses, external funders and all those in the wider community interested in achieving outstanding research results.
