Gold Cycle Friendly Employer

Green Key Certificate for Academy Restaurant
The Academy Restaurant, located on our Belfast campus and part of Ulster University Business School, was awarded the Green Key certification, an international eco-label recognising excellence in environmental and sustainable practices. This achievement reflects the restaurant’s commitment to responsible resource management, waste reduction, and the promotion of local and sustainable food sourcing. As a student-led establishment, it also plays a key role in embedding sustainability within the learning experience for future hospitality professionals.
ISO 14001: Environmental Management System Accreditation
Ulster University's Estates Services and Procurement departments are certified to ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management. This certification demonstrates our commitment to reducing environmental impact, ensuring compliance, and continually improving our sustainability performance across campus operations.
BITC NI Environmental Benchmarking Survey: Platinum Award and Top 40
Ulster University achieved Platinum status in the BITC Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey and was recognised as a Top 40 performer. This achievement demonstrates our leadership and continuous improvement in managing environmental impacts, showcasing our commitment to sustainability and best practice.
Athena Swan Silver Award
Ulster University holds a silver Athena SWAN award, recognising our commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education. The award reflects our ongoing work to address barriers, promote inclusive policies, and create a supportive environment for all staff and students. Twenty of our Schools have been actively involved in Athena SWAN initiatives, developing action plans to improve gender balance, career progression, and workplace culture and hold bronze, silver, or gold awards.
Autism Impact Award for Student Wellbeing Team

Ulster University has signed the Can’t Buy My Silence Universities Pledge, reaffirming our commitment to fostering a safe, transparent, and supportive environment for all students and staff. By endorsing this pledge, we commit to ensuring that survivors of sexual harassment and assault are heard, respected, and supported. Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Network

North Western Universities Purchasing Consortium & Electronics Watch
Ulster University is a member of the North West Universities Purchasing Consortium (NWUPC), which drives responsible and sustainable procurement across the higher education sector. Through NWUPC, we are also affiliated with Electronics Watch, an independent monitoring organisation that works to protect the rights of workers in global electronics supply chains.
