Save money, reduce emissions and make new friends via the Liftshare Scheme.
Joining the Liftshare scheme will help connect students from all campuses who want to share car journeys and save money. You don’t need to have a car to get started either, register as a passenger and you can grab a lift when you need to.
Save money – split the cost of fuel and parking.
Go green – fewer cars = lower carbon footprint.
Make it fun – share playlists, swap stories, meet new mates.

Liftshare is designed to be as safe as possible.
Make sure you follow some common-sense tips when you organise a lift:
1. The Liftshare app will only match you with other students from Ulster University, however, avoid providing your full name or address before you have met someone. Liftshare will not share these details on your behalf.
2. Make good use of the secure messaging on Liftshare before your lift, and only agree to a lift if you’re happy.
3. Some members choose to show each other their IDs - e.g. student cards or driving licences - so they know they're travelling with the right person.
4. You are never under any obligation to share a lift. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t go through with the lift – even if it’s been agreed.
5. As with any activity that involves meeting new people, it’s advisable to meet in a public place the first time. It’s a good idea to let friends and family know your plans.
6. You can check someone's driving licence information here or share your driving licence information with someone else here.
If you’re taking a lift, you may want to check the details of the driver’s car.
Ask to see the driver’s insurance documentation before you share. You can also ask your driver for the number plate and make, and then check its MOT and tax status on the Government’s website.
When you add a journey, Liftshare provides a suggested contribution for the trip calculated using the HMRC’s Mileage Payment Allowance. This ensures the driver doesn’t profit from the journey which would invalidate their insurance.
No payment is exchanged through Liftshare, you should arrange payment directly with the person you're sharing with.
Liftshare doesn’t affect your car insurance. Liftshare suggested contributions do not allow drivers to generate profit from giving a lift.
If you’re not generating a profit from the trip and are not giving a lift to more than eight people at once, the Association of British Insurers states that normal car insurance policies are unaffected by car sharing.
Since the fees you earn from passengers are based on Government-approved fuel contributions, you don’t need to worry.
Only your first name and biography are visible to other users when you offer or request a lift.
Your location information is filtered, this means we only show the first part of your postcode and the street name. If you have provided your house number on the system, this will NOT show to other members.
Your mobile number is only shared with your driver or passenger once your booking is confirmed. This is so you can organise the details of your lift.
