The Science Shop was established in 1988 and is a joint initiative between Ulster University and Queens University Belfast. We are celebrating our 30th Anniversary and will hosting a variety of events to celebrate our collaborative achievements throughout this academic year.

Third sector, not for profit community and voluntary organisations can submit research project ideas. The Science Shop acts as a broker identifying students from a relevant subject discipline to do complete the project as part of their University coursework. Organisations receive an evidence-informed report to help them shape future policy and develop appropriate service provision.

Last year, the Science Shop recruited 937 undergraduate and postgraduate students across all four campuses and Facilities to complete 210 projects for 63 community and voluntary partners across Northern Ireland.

Each year, the annual joint Science Shop Student Award recognises the contribution of the students who have completed the best project for their community partner. There is prize fund of £1,000 at both Ulster University and Queens’s and each institution will recognise two student winners.

If you are a community or voluntary organisation with a potential research project idea or If you are a student wishing to view the current projects on offer contact FlexEd@ulster.ac.uk.
