The Ask 4 Widening Access and Participation (WAP) Project, funded by the Department for Economy, is a key element of the 2026–2032 Derry~Londonderry (DLD) Campus Expansion Project, supporting the Ministerial commitment to welcome 10,000 learners to the DLD campus by 2032.
The project is focused on creating inclusive pathways from schools, colleges, and communities into Further and Higher Education, particularly for underrepresented groups in the North-West. It is dedicated to building strong relationships with learners and communities, ensuring that education feels accessible and achievable for everyone.
We aim to demystify our educational offer and showcase the opportunities available at Ulster University through;
- Practical, experience-based outreach activities
- Educational roadshows
- Interactive workshops
- Campus-based Discovery Days and tours
Project Outcomes
A series of on-campus experience days where participants can;
- Take part in subject-specific workshops
- Meet academic staff and students
- Tour the DLD Campus facilities
These popular experiential events give learners a real insight into the practicalities of studying at Ulster University while engaging in hands-on activities that bring subjects to life.
Taking inspiration from the Award Winning Discovery Academy, the Discovery Learning Hub will act as an online Information, Advice and Guidance portal for adults considering a return to education. The Discovery Learning Hub will launch on 1st September 2026.
We are proud to have established a strong partnership approach to our Outreach provision with North West Regional College (NWRC). Through this collaboration, NWRC students can participate in Discovery Days, providing a clear pathway from entry-level courses to undergraduate degree programmes.
NWRC students receive Discovery Roadshow workshops, and have access to our campus at DLD for subject specific Discovery Days. This partnership has been integral in the development of our pilot Community Plus programme.
New for academic year 2025/26 and delivered in partnership with North West Regional College, The Community Plus Programme offers practical Information, Advice and Guidance to support participants in making informed decisions about their next steps in education, training, or personal development.
Through interactive sessions, campus tours, and goal-setting exercises, the programme is designed to demystify options and build confidence in planning future pathways.
