We are delighted to share the news that Fidelma Ashe has been promoted to Professor of Politics in the University’s latest round of professorial promotions.

Fidelma has been a member of the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences (and before that the School of Criminology, Politics and Social Policy) for many years and has been a member of TJI since 2015.

Fidelma has made numerous contributions to research, teaching, Ulster administration and the wider community.

Fidelma has published five books, her most recent being Gender, Nationalism and Conflict Transformation (Routledge 2019), as well as nearly 30 peer-reviewed journal articles.

Her research has been supported by grants from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust and the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.

She has done pioneering interdisciplinary work, developing novel outputs on, among others, her AHRC funded project LGBTQ Visions of Peace.

In her teaching Fidelma embraces a research-led approach that incorporates social justice values across all year groups.

She has offered exemplary mentorship and support to numerous students, researchers and colleagues.
