How could minority and women’s rights be protected in a United Ireland?

A seminar exploring how the rights of women, linguistic minorities, unionists, and migrants could be protected in the constitutional and legal structures for Ireland if there was a ‘yes’ vote under a referendum held under the Belfast / Good Friday Agreement.

The seminar consists of two panels:

Panel 2: Women's rights

Confirmed participants include Prof Colin Murray (Newcastle University), Prof Brice Dickson (Queen's University Belfast), Dr Salome Mbuga (AkiDwa Ireland), Prof Colin Harvey (Queen's University Belfast), Prof Fidelma Ashe (Ulster University), Elaine Crory (Women's Resource and Development Agency), Dr Joanna McMinn (Ulster University) and Prof Fionnuala Ní Aoláin (Queen's University Belfast/Minnesota). This event is being organised by the Equality Coalition and Transitional Justice Institute, supported by the LSE Gender, Justice and Security Hub.

The Transitional Justice Institute (TJI) is a world-leading law-led multidisciplinary research centre focusing on transitional justice - how societies deal with the transition from conflict or oppression - human rights, gender, international law, peace and conflict.

The Equality Coalition is a network of over 100 NGOs and trade unions dedicated to advancing equality in Northern Ireland. The Coalition is co-convened by UNISON and CAJ (both of which would take no position on the present or future constitutional status of NI).

The Gender, Justice and Security Hub is a multi-partner research network working with local and global civil society, practitioners, governments and international organisations to advance gender justice and inclusive peace. https://thegenderhub.com/

The Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) is an independent, non-governmental human rights organisation, based in Belfast, that promotes justice and protects rights. In addition to co-convening the Equality Coalition CAJ is a NGO partner in the Gender, Justice and Security Hub.
