Serbian–American pianist Ivan Ilić studied mathematics and music at the University of California Berkeley before moving to Paris in 2001. He was awarded a “Premier Prix” at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, then continued his studies at the École Normale de Musique. The City of Paris sponsored his first recording.
Ivan Ilić has released several critically acclaimed CDs, including 24 Préludes by Claude Debussy (2008), 22 Chopin Studies for the left hand by Leopold Godowsky (2012), The Transcendentalist (2014), For Bunita Marcus by Morton Feldman (2015), and the Reicha Rediscovered series (2017 – ). His recordings are broadcast across six continents, and his videos of Godowsky’s Chopin Studies have attracted over 500,000 views on YouTube.
His current focus is a 5 CD series for British label Chandos Records, entitled Reicha Rediscovered. Volume 1, coproduced by Swiss Radio and the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice, was released to widespread acclaim in September 2017. Volume 2 was released in September 2018, leading to a prominent feature in The New York Times.
Ivan is currently Ulster University's International Musician in Residence.
