Offers of Apprenticeship study at Ulster University are conditional upon you providing sufficient evidence of eligibility including identification, proof of employment, and proof that you meet all of the eligibility requirements for Apprenticeships set out by the Department for the Economy.
For most apprentices, Results Day is important because your Level 3 results are the final piece of evidence required to recieve an unconditional offer of study with us. Prior to Results Day, there are a few easy steps that you can take to ensure you are in a position to accept your offer of study and formally join us as an apprentice.
- Make sure your application is in, and that you have recieved a conditional offer of study.
- Understand the conditions that you need to meet, and take steps prior to results day to meet as many of these conditions as possible. For example, make sure you have already provided us with any copies of identification that are requested, and that you have demonstrated to us that you have secured an employer.
- Monitor your emails regularly and carefully, and make sure that admissions@ulster.ac.uk and admissions_direct@ulster.ac.uk are on your safe senders list.
I've got my results and made my grades, what comes next?
This depends on your individual circumstances, but the next steps are all about accepting your offer of study. It's important to note that all communication around applications for Degree Apprenticeships exists outside of the UCAS system, via email between the University Admissions Team, and the email address you provided during your application.
- If you have also applied to Ulster University via UCAS for Full-Time Undergraduate study, we will already have your results, and will start issuing offers as soon as possible. If you've made the grade requirements set out in your conditional offer of study, your offer will be updated and resent to you.
- If you simultaneously hold offers for Full Time study as well as an Apprenticeship, don't take action to accept or reject any UCAS offer until your Apprenticeship offer arrives (usually within 48 Hours). Due to Apprenticeship applications being processed via a different system, you might get automated emails with contradictory advice from other institutions, UCAS, or even Ulster University. Only take action on UCAS after you have accepted your Apprenticeship offer via email with our Admissions Team. If you are unclear about what to do, use the Results Day Guide linked above to contact us.
- Be patient. Due to embargo rules about processing data obtained from UCAS, Degree Apprenticeship offers are typically issued at least 24 hours after your results are released. Our Admissions Team work as quickly as they can, but as the largest provider of Higher Level Apprenticeships in Northern Ireland, it takes time to update applications and issue offers of study to several hundred applicants.
- If you did not apply to Ulster University for Full-Time study via UCAS, we may not have recieved your Level 3 results on Results Day. Once you recieve your results, you should send these to admissions_direct@ulster.ac.uk by scanning them or taking a photograph that clearly displays your results and other key information on the page.
I've missed my grades and no longer meet the standard entry criteria. What should I do?
- Don't worry! Contact our Admissions team by emailing admissions_direct@ulster.ac.uk to update them on your results. The course team will review your results and make a decision on your application.
- Depending on the total number of funded places available, we may be able to offer you a place on the apprenticeship with reduced entry requirements in line with any grade reductions made for the equivalent full-time course.
- If there is capacity and your job role is suitable, you may be offered a place on another Degree Apprenticeship with different entry requirements. If this happens, the University must recieve approval from your employer that this is acceptable to them before your place would be confirmed.
- If you have secured an employer but we are unable to make you an offer based on your Level 3 results, arrange to discuss your next steps with your employer. There may be other Higher Level Apprenticeships pathways at Levels 4 and 5 at that you can pursue. Successful completion of many these Foundation-Level Apprenticeship programmes can lead to advanced entry on to one of our Degree Apprenticeships, so you can still end up with your desired qualification even if things don't go as expected on Results Day. Reach out to apprenticeships@ulster.ac.uk for more information on eligible routes through FE.
- Most employers will require you to meet the academic entry criteria as a condition of employment, so missing out on your predicted grades can sometimes mean missing out on an employment opportunity. If this happens, you can still consider studying at Ulster on another course (either Full-Time or Part-Time) on a self-funding basis. Use the link in the blue box to contact us about your options.
