Virtual Campus
Project Funding
The Virtual Campus project is proudly funded by the Department for the Economy's Step Up project.
What is Virtual Campus?
Virtual Campus has proudly originated from the creativity of our very own Ulster University students. As an award-winning student-led project, it allows users to virtually explore and connect with the Ulster University campus.
With the ability to explore the campus from anywhere in the world, the Virtual Campus project transcends geographical boundaries, making Ulster University’s environment accessible to all. This unique Virtual Campus initiative not only provides exclusive access to specialised spaces but also allows individuals to explore new spaces, reducing feelings of anxiety and creating a more inclusive and comfortable experience for everyone involved.

Background & Student Awards
Virtual Campus (originally named Project ADAPT) originated from an undergraduate student project by Ulster University student Josephine McGoldrick. Her work was presented and published at the 2021 Higher Education Advances (HEAd) Conference and was also a winner of the Report Category (2021) at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) AT Awards.
A second Ulster University student, Eilís O'Hare, followed this success by winning the Report Category at the 2022 awards for her project entitled 'The Potential for Digital Construction Technologies to Advance Fire Evacuation Procedures'. Eilis's research built upon work developed as part of Project ADAPT and demonstrated the potential to deliver an instructional escape video for emergency evacuation using a QR code.
In 2023, Ulster University's Virtual Campus project was named winner of the 'Excellence in Workplace Health & Wellbeing' category at the Digital Construction Live Awards held in June.
The Virtual Campus team would like to give a special thank you to the Ulster University placement students Saif Wasim, Conor Dempsey, John McCamphill, Klaudia Rymdejko and Oran McGrinder for their hard work and contribution to the project.
