Below are some of the most commonly asked questions and what support is available to help you.

Course details

We work closely with the Regional Colleges to ensure that your course is a great route to your ultimate undergraduate degree at Ulster University.

You can find out more about the content of the course on the online prospectus at your chosen Regional College.

Entry requirements

Each Regional College will have their own entry requirements for each course. Go to the Regional College website for the specific entry requirements for the course.

Start dates

Please contact the relevant Regional College for the start date for your chosen course.

Applications

As you will apply and begin your study at the Regional College, you should contact the relevant Regional College for help with your application.

If accepted to the course, you will become a registered student of your chosen Regional College and an Associate Student of Ulster University.

Application process

In the first instance, you will apply to the Regional College where you will commence your studies. For most of our programmes, you will complete 2 years of study at the Regional College. You can see which year you will move to Ulster University in each individual subject page.

To commence your studies at Ulster University, you will then apply to Ulster via UCAS and then join the full degree programme.

There are some exceptions to this including duration of studies at the College or when you join your studies at Ulster, so make sure you discuss the steps for your chosen course with the teams at the Regional College.

Application deadline

All applications and application deadlines are managed by the relevant Regional College. Please refer to the Regional College for their application deadlines.

Application status

Your application will be handled by the Regional College where you submitted your application. For information about its status and next steps, please contact the Regional College directly.

If you have an issue with your application or need to make a change, please contact the Regional College directly.

Unsuccessful applications

There are several reasons why you may have been declined a place, for example if the course is full.

If you want to discuss your decision or explore alternative options, please contact the Regional College where you submitted your application for help.

Application withdrawal

If you have made an application but now need to withdraw from the process, please contact the Regional College directly.

Offers

Unconditional offer

If you receive an Unconditional Offer from the Regional College, Congratulations! Your application has been successful, and you meet the entry requirements for a confirmed place at your College.

Your next step is to confirm your acceptance of this place and you will begin the registration and enrolment process with the Regional College directly.

Watch your emails for information from the Regional College on how to accept your place.

Conditional offer

If you receive a Conditional Offer from the Regional College, Congratulations!

You have been offered a place subject to meeting certain conditions of your offer.  This is normally exam results.  Make sure you carefully review the conditions of your offer.

Once these are met, you can share these details with the Admissions team at the Regional College where you submitted your application.

Ulster University Entry Requirements

Many of the Foundation programmes provide entry points to several degrees in a similar subject area or field which in turn have specific course level entry requirements.

When preparing your UCAS application, we advise that you look at the entry grades for all degrees in your specific area or field to maximize your options.

Entry requirements are subject to change so ensure you are looking at the requirements for your relevant entry year.

A gap between studies

If you have successfully completed your studies at the Regional College but now want to take some time off before you proceed to the next stage of your studies at Ulster you have a couple of options.

You could delay your application to Ulster University via UCAS.

Alternatively, you could apply to Ulster via UCAS and, if you are offered a place, could choose to defer your place and join Ulster once you have taken your time out.

Change course options

We have carefully designed each course with the relevant Regional College to ensure that you acquire the skills to succeed in that subject or field. Many of the foundation programmes provide entry points to several degrees in a similar subject area or field.

An application to an alternative subject area or field would need to be decided on a case by case basis including a review of the requested course subject specific entry requirements.

Funding

Funding studies at College

Student finance is available for those studying at a College via Student Finance NI subject to eligibility.

Before you apply

Before you apply, you should check what types of student finance are available and if you qualify for student finance. You will make your application as a student of the College and for the years of study at the College only.

Once you apply

Once you apply to join your course at Ulster University via UCAS, you can apply for further support with Student Finance NI based on your new course information. This will be a new application.

The level of support will depend on your personal eligibility, the duration of the course and the entry point in which you enter Ulster University.

We advise that you contact Student Finance NI directly to clarify your eligibility before starting a course at Ulster University.

Funding Studies at Ulster University

If you avail of financial support whilst studying at the Regional College, you are not necessarily prevented from applying for further support whilst studying at Ulster University. However, your full-time previous study will be taken into account in calculating your support entitlement.

Subject to eligibility, students can get support when progressing from Regional Colleges to Ulster University. The level of support will depend on your personal eligibility, the duration of the course and the entry point in which you enter Ulster University.

Student Support Services

Whilst you are studying at the Regional College, you will be a fully registered student of that College.

They are on hand to provide you with any Accommodation, Wellbeing or Financial Support you need during your studies at the College.

Ulster University Associate Student

Whilst you study at the Regional College, you will be an Associate Student of Ulster University.
