Use the tabs below to find out the entry requirements for Republic of Ireland students depending on their qualification.
The General Entrance Requirements identify the minimum qualifications needed for application to a course at Ulster University. All undergraduate programmes require Republic of Ireland applicants to achieve a minimum of either:
Please check the individual course pages for the exact entry requirements, as these can vary between programmes. Some courses may also ask for a minimum grade in certain subjects to show you already have the core knowledge needed.

Applicants presenting with the Irish Leaving Certificate are required to have a minimum of five subjects with passes (H6 or above) in four higher level subjects to include English at H6/O4. The specific subject and grade requirements for Leaving Certificate applicants are displayed on each programme page.
Most programmes at Ulster University require students to achieve a certain UCAS Points Tarriff, which can be achieved by totalling up each grade achieved in the Leaving Cert.
Ulster University counts all Leaving Cert Established (LCE) grades towards the total amount of UCAS points achieved. So if an applicant is doing seven subjects, we will count all seven grades. Please note, Leaving Cert Vocational Programme (LCVP) and Leaving Cert Established (LCE) grades are not counted toward the amount of UCAS points achieved.
The below table displays what each Leaving Cert grade is worth in UCAS points.
| Ordinary Level | Higher Level | UCAS Points |
|---|---|---|
| H1 | 36 | |
| H2 | 30 | |
| H3 | 24 | |
| H4 | 18 | |
| O1 | H5 | 12 |
