Andrew - University of Jyväskylä, Tampere, Finland

Erasmus, 2012

"There were obstacles - leaving my family and the environment I knew - but it became the best semester I experienced during my time at Ulster. Probably the best 5-6 months of my life or up there."

Challenges

I can't stress how many other first-time Erasmus students will confirm this for you: your Erasmus semester will almost certainly be one of the greatest times you'll have in your personal life (Google it).

It's difficult to explain why this is but it boils down to getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing different styles of education, a different culture and expanding your network (i.e. meeting a lot of like-minded and diverse international people) all at once.

Reflection

You become more of an adaptable person too because your experiences in a foreign country make you adapt. This is critical in todays job market, especially after University, if you're a financial, medical, computing, service or creative professional.
