The Healthy Heroes Nutrition Project is a student-led educational outreach initiative that involved a student project team recruited from our undergraduate and postgraduate Food, Nutrition and Dietetics cohorts to design and deliver an interactive education session to Key Stage 2 pupils in three primary schools (The Fountain PS, The Model PS and Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir) in Derry/Londonderry.
The students spent time during semester 2 designing their interactive session, which aimed to increase awareness of where our food comes from and what constitutes a balanced diet based on current, evidenced-based dietary guidelines in the target audience. They traveled to the primary schools and delivered the sessions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
There will be a showcase event held at the Magee campus 17th May 2018, where participating pupils will have the opportunity to illustrate their learning through posters, as well as spend some time at the University. Again, our student project team will be helping to facilitate this.
