Understanding and exploration

Introduction to innovation session

Companies can visit the CIDRA facilities to gain a foundational understanding of Industry 4.0 technologies and their potential applications. These sessions will offer a first-hand look at the state-of-the-art equipment and demonstrations showcasing technologies such as robotics, AI, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and additive manufacturing. This provides an opportunity to see the practical implementation of these concepts and understand their relevance to modern manufacturing.

Technology awareness programme

CIDRA will host webinars and events focused on introducing the value of digitalisation, automation, and robotics to a wider audience. These initiatives aim to raise awareness of the opportunities presented by these technologies and encourage further exploration of potential collaborations.

Hands-on project development

Industrial and commercial company staff secondments

Businesses can send their staff to work within the CIDRA facility. During these secondments, employees will have direct access to the specialist equipment and can actively experiment with the technologies, such as the Reconfigurable Manufacturing Floor, Human-Robot Cobotics Area, and Additive Area. This allows for the development and trialling of prototype production lines, the gaining of in-depth expertise in areas such as robotics programming, AI application in manufacturing, IIoT system integration, and additive manufacturing techniques. This immersive experience allows companies to de-risk innovation by testing new concepts in a supportive environment.

Collaborative research and innovation project

CIDRA actively seeks partnerships with industry to undertake research and innovation projects. These collaborations can range from short, focused innovation sprints to longer-term, more in-depth research and development initiatives aimed at advancing the science and technology of industrial manufacturing, robotics, and automation. These projects will leverage the combined expertise of university researchers and industry professionals to address specific industry challenges and explore new technological frontiers. This co-creation approach is designed to deliver real-world solutions and enhance the competitiveness of Northern Ireland's manufacturing sector.

CIDRA will provide an open door for the manufacturing industry wanting to prototype and test new software or hardware concepts, explore the design space, gather user feedback and evaluate implementation directions using state of the art prototyping facilities and utilise IDT and I4.0 technologies from inception.

Through these varied engagement activities, CIDRA aims to act as a catalyst for transformation in Northern Ireland's manufacturing landscape, directly supporting businesses in their journey towards increased productivity and competitiveness by providing access to knowledge, facilities, and collaborative opportunities.
