Degree Apprenticeships for Existing Employees

Unless your apprentice is continuing on from an apprenticeship at a lower level, they will need to be moving into a new role that justifies the training they'll obtain on the apprenticeship.  They can't continue on in their current role and pursue an apprenticeship - by definition, they've already got their current position using the skills they already have and don't need extra training.  They'll need a new role that will allow them to practice the skills and knowledge that they gain at University in their role.

The Department for the Economy has designed their Apprenticeship policy to allow apprentices to continue their training by progressing through levels of study.  For example, if your employee is undertaking an apprenticeship at Foundation Degree level, they can progress on to one of our Degree Apprenticeships without a change in job role.

In this case, since the training provider will be changing as they make the step up in study, you'll have to complete a new tripartite agreement with Ulster University.  Places on our apprenticeships are limited and subject to funding, so you should have the conversation with your apprentice about undertaking additional apprenticeship study early, and contact us as soon as you know that you want to progress.
