As the official body of Graduate representation within the University, Convocation wishes to express, at this extraordinary time of extraordinary challenges, its overwhelming pride in our Graduates and Staff who are essential to every aspect of the global fight against COVID-19.
Ulster University and its predecessor institutions have played a central role in training professionals for the Healthcare and Biomedical sectors, and for greatly-lauded research within these realms.
University Convocation members work in a range of health service and related roles. They are working not only behind the masks and visors on the front lines to provide essential health and care, but also in providing support for the community across the spectrum of need.
We also honour and thank our members-to-be, our students, who are on placement in NHS and other essential institutions, giving their all in this struggle alongside their graduate colleagues.
Convocation Executive Members have been delighted to donate, on behalf of Convocation as well as individuals, to the effort spearheaded by Professor Tony Bjourson to support increased testing for, and vital research into, COVID-19.
Convocation is an institution based upon continuity and activism. There have been few times when the Executive Committee members, as its representatives, have had so great a sense of continuity of connection to the generations of our University family as they do now in this time of crisis.
Mary Campbell, Chair of Convocation commented:
"To all our members, on the frontline, in the laboratories, keeping the fabric of our lives intact by continuing working in difficult conditions or just staying at home, with whatever hardships that entails, to prevent the rampant spread of Covid 19 – thank you. May you, and all you love, remain safe and well until we can all celebrate the passage of this darkness - and celebrate, more formally, those who kept alive the light ahead of us."
