About the Living Lab
The School of Computing has a large-scale Smart Environment at its disposal to support its research. This environment has been specifically designed in a flexible manner to facilitate the design, development and evaluation of solutions to support health, wellbeing and ambient assisted living.
The environment has a smart kitchen. smart living room and bedroom/ bathroom environment which have been created to support the investigation into the area of assistive technologies and activity recognition.
Most notably these include a set of gold standard technologies for physiological and behavioural sensing, including Ultra-Wide Band location, pressure sensitive floor, gait-rite pressure sensitive walkway, Sofbank Pepper robot, Sanbot S1 Robotic Platform and a range of IoT endpoints/ edge devices (raspberry Pi, Arduino and shimmer), range of physiological sensing devices including Delsys Trigno EMG, XSens Awinda, Hexoskin and Zypher Bioharness.
