Unfinished business: A Bill of Rights for NI

Transitional Justice Institute Summer School

As part of the Festival of Social Sciences, join this inspiring debate and help us achieve a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland.

In 2008, the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) launched the Bill of Rights process, and submitted its advice to the UK Government.

However this still remains an incomplete part of the Belfast/Good Friday agreement.Panellists joining us for the debate include Anne Smith, Senior Lecturer at the Transitional Justice Institute/ School of Law at Ulster University. Anne’s research and teaching interests are in transitional constitutionalism, comparative constitutional law, human rights and equality.

Also joining Anne will be Colin Harvey, Professor of Human Rights Law at Queen’s University Belfast and Fellow of the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice.Anne and Colin will present recommendations from the 'Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust' research project, which will be followed by discussions with attendees to identify the next steps for the Northern Ireland Bill of Rights.

The event will be chaired by journalist Susan McKay.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
