The Finance Department is responsible for providing financial advice and support to faculties and departments, managing the University’s income and expenditure, ensuring that we get value for money in all our financial activities and that we comply with statutory and regulatory body requirements and financial best practice.

The department comprises three sections:

Financial Accounting

Financial Accounting is responsible for the efficient processing of financial transactions, compliance with statutory and financial regulations and procedures, production of the University’s financial statements and its statutory returns, development and maintenance of the Finance IT systems and the treasury management of the University’s cash funds.

Financial Accounting sections include Income and Student Fees, Accounts Payable, Salaries and Wages, Pensions, VAT and Corporation Tax, Fixed Assets, Financial Controls, Finance IT Systems and Treasury Management.

Management Accounting

The Management Accounting section provides a professional financial management support service to the four faculties and professional services departments within the University. Services provided include preparing the financial forecasts, preparing and submitting the TRAC return, controlling the budget setting process, providing financial management information and assisting with preparation of business plans and economic appraisals.

Procurement

The Procurement Team is the central point within the University for all Procurement Guidance and Support.  The Team promotes efficient and effective procurement, working with customers to ensure that responsible procurement and value for money is maximised by employing best practice, advising on the management of risk and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

The Team is principally responsible for leading on high value/high risk procurement projects although is ideally involved with all procurement exceeding £30K.
