Scholars at Risk - Ireland is delighted to welcome Dr Prosper Maguchu during the week February 3rd - February 7th.
Dr Prosper Maguchu is currently visiting associate professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is the international coordinator for the Anti-Corruption Act Southern Africa. Previously Prosper worked as a senior projects lawyer with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum specializing in public interest litigation on behalf of torture and organized violence victims. Prosper also teaches anti-corruption law, business and human rights as a guest at summer schools in universities in Africa and Europe. He holds a masters degree in Transnational Criminal Justice and a doctorate on Transitional Justice, Corruption and Human Rights. His main research interests are in financial crimes, with a poorly concealed penchant for a human rights based approach. He has written and published in peer-reviewed journals as well as several book chapters on these areas.
As part of his visit Dr Maguchu will deliver seminars at the Ulster University (at the Transitional Justice Institute, 3rd Feb), Queen's University of Belfast (4th February), University College Dublin (5th February), Maynooth University (6th February) and University College Cork (7th February).
SAR-Ireland formed as a partnership between Universities Ireland and the Scholars at Risk Network in September 2009. This partnership provides support to threatened academics around the world, including by arranging temporary placements in Ireland to allow them to safely continue their work.
