This self directed EDGE activity will enable you to launch your job search in the right way through a series of self directed activities supporting your preparation to find and apply for opportunities.

Outline of Activity

Career Confident is about you taking specific actions that will help you launch and kickstart your job search with confidence. You will develop a complete Handshake profile, get started on LinkedIn, improve your CV and enhance your interview skills.

Learning Outcomes

Through completion of this activity you will:

• Enhance your networking through completing your Handshake profile and getting started with LinkedIn
• Improve your CV so that it is competitive when applying for different opportunities
• Develop your approach to job interviews through practice and experience in answering different questions and reflecting on your answers and preparation

Although this EDGE activity is self directed, we encourage you to access our 1-1 coaching service for in person support.

Assessment Details

To complete this EDGE activity you need to complete the following:

1. Complete your Handshake profile to 100%
2. Achieve a minimum score of 85 in VMock
3. Use the VMock CV Optimiser to review how your CV is targeted to a specific job opportunity
4. Complete at least 1 practice interview in VMock
5. Develop a LinkedIn Profile that includes a profile pic, completed sections across your profile and min 15 connections

If required please arrange a 1-1 appointment with our Graduate Futures team to access expert advice on using Handshake, developing your CV and using the VMock interview tool in a way that will support your job search.

Brian manages Employability Services which covers our range of student facing services delivered by our expert Employability Advisor team. This covers a range of services including our expert advice service, the Ulster EDGE & EDGE Excel Award and our range of digital tools and platforms including Handshake.

Brian has worked in Employability & Careers since 2010 starting as a Career Development Consultant and then moving into management roles including Graduate Internships and for the last number of years Employability Services.

He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and currently serves as a Board member with specialist consultancy Specialisterne. He is a former Trustee of leading professional body ASET (205-2019) and is currently a Peer Reviewer for the Association of Graduate Career Advisory Services.
