Want to feel more confident finding, evaluating and using information for your studies?
We're excited to launch Spotlight, the Library's new skills development series! Designed for first year undergraduate students and those seeking a refresher. Spotlight will help you develop library, information and research skills needed to study with confidence and succeed at university.
The series covers six short 30-minute sessions including:
1-Spotlight on Information Sources
Learn about different types of information sources and when to use them.
2-Spotlight on Finding Information
Discover effective ways to locate information for assignments, projects and research.
3-Spotlight on Effective Searching
Develop search techniques that help you find relevant, high-quality information.
4-Spotlight on Evaluating Information
Learn how to assess information for credibility, relevance and quality.
5-Spotlight on Referencing
Build confidence in referencing and citing sources appropriately in your academic work.
6-Spotlight on Information Management
Explore how to manage, use and save information.
Build Your Skills, One Step at a Time
Start with a Library-Led 30-minute workshop to build your understanding, then continue your learning through the Graduate Award self-paced activities that give you the opportunity to practise, apply and consolidate further what you've learned.
This approach helps you build confidence, strengthen your academic skills and become a more independent learner.

Spotlight Graduate Award Activity
Continue your learning with self-paced activities that reinforce and build on the skills introduced in the workshops. Complete activities at your own pace, develop your confidence through practice, and gain recognition through the Ulster Graduate Award.

Spotlight provides a starting point for developing the information literacy skills needed throughout your degree.
As you progress through your studies, you'll be signposted to more advanced Library workshops, resources and support designed to help you further develop your research skills. Whether you're undertaking a literature review, preparing a dissertation or conducting independent research, the library will support you at every stage of your academic journey.
