Accommodation

We have been advised by Residential Services that student accommodation in Coleraine will not be available at the time of the Festival. The closest hotel is The Lodge Hotel where you can quote ‘Ulster University’ and receive a discounted rate of £79 per night. They are holding 20 rooms at this price and they will be issued on first come first served basis.

Travel Information

Doctoral College will cover public transport costs or mileage (25p per mile) from your base campus OR your home, whichever is less.

Travelling by Car

We would encourage PhD Researchers to ‘car pool’ where possible.

The Coleraine campus address is as follows: Ulster University, Cromore Rd, Coleraine, BT52 1SA.

There is ample car parking at Coleraine campus, but we would recommend using public transport and if you need an accessible parking space, please arrange this in advance of the Festival of PhD Research. Blue Badge holders will pay £1 for their parking permit, and you can apply online via the following link: Application for Car Parking Permit Tier 1 - Blue Badge Holders.

Travelling by Public Transport – Bus

Buses to Coleraine Bus Station from Belfast leave from the Laganside Bus Station roughly every hour depending on the service. Then once you arrive at Coleraine Bus Station you can travel to the Coleraine campus by bus, using the Triangle services from the Coleraine Bus Centre, which run roughly every 30mins.

Bus services from Derry~Londonderry to Coleraine Bus Station operate from the Foyle Street Bus Station and run roughly every hour depending on the service. Then as previously mentioned you can use the Triangle services that leave from the Coleraine Bus Station, which run roughly every 30mins.

Travelling by Public Transport – Train

Trains from Belfast Grand Central Station run hourly to Coleraine Train Station and the journey takes approximately 1hour 30mins. Whereas trains from Derry~Londonderry Train Station run hourly to Coleraine Train Station and the journey takes approximately 38mins.

You can also get a train from Coleraine Train Station to the University Train Station in Coleraine and these trains leave hourly and take approximately 3mins. You will a have a 5 minute walk from the station to the entrance of the Coleraine campus, just follow the paths once you have crossed over the road from the train station.

Claiming Travel Expenses

Please ensure you retain all receipts for travel to claim your expenses.

If you are eligible to claim travel expenses for attending the PhD Festival, you can do so through the Digital Claimant Portal after the event. You can access guidance on how to use the portal using the following link: Requestor User Guide. You will need your Ulster University login credentials to register initially and to sign in each time. During registration, you will be asked to provide your bank account details and your National Insurance number if you are a UK taxpayer.
