Industry Partnerships
Almac Sciences
Ulster University has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) to accelerate the development of innovative treatments for patients with complex health needs. Through this collaboration, the Cross Sector Experience award will support Professor Chris McConville to work closely with the Physical Sciences team at Almac Sciences in Craigavon. The partnership will focus on improving the solubility and bioavailability of drugs by developing advanced manufacturing approaches, with a particular focus on melt extrusion techniques.

“By uniting cutting-edge research with real-world pharmaceutical innovation, this work bridges the gap between lab bench and patient bedside, delivering advanced drug formulations that can transform treatment outcomes and redefine how medicines are made. This award will allow us to establish a pipeline from lab to clinic by integrating research with pharmaceutical manufacturing.”
The partnership integrates cutting‑edge research into Almac’s workflows to deliver fast, efficient, and cost‑effective development using very small quantities of material. This streamlined process can be applied across fields such as nanotechnology and advanced therapeutics, reducing costs and enabling rapid progression from early‑stage research to viable treatment pathways.
