Marking the 15th anniversary of the International Day of the Disappeared, Conflict Textiles presents this specially curated exhibition.
This is the first solo exhibition by Conflict Textiles at the Art Gallery. The disappeared, and those affected by it, have always been at the core of Conflict Textiles, exposing the lived experience of those who have been affected by the ripples of enforced disappearances by various regimes. Through the arpilleras, other textiles & other art forms, participants can experience the creative responses by witnesses to these events.
The exhibition contains both new and old pieces in the Conflict Textiles collection and unveils a new work by Irene MacWilliam on the disappeared of Northern Ireland. A tribute to Irene, who has dedicated 14 years in the creation of this poignant and painful piece, at the exhibition launch, Wednesday 26 August from 3pm to 4:30pm.
In the context of the exhibition taking place at the time of Disappearance Studies Conference in Derry~Londonderry, international visitors to the conference are invited to visit the exhibition either Saturday 29th from 1 to 5pm or after the conference Wednesday 2 September at a time to be arranged during the conference.
